How we're structured
Justice Defenders was founded as a registered UK charity and currently works in three African countries, with ambitions for scale. To make it easier for individuals and organisations in the United States to be engaged with our work in Africa, we also established Justice Defenders (USA) as a 501(c)(3) tax exempt public charity EIN 36-4787320. Justice Defenders (USA) ensures that all funds entrusted to it are stewarded toward the global Justice Defenders mission.
How we're governed
Justice Defenders (USA) is a subsidiary entity of Justice Defenders in the UK. Each has an independent board that contributes to the global strategy and ensures their country-specific governance and fiduciary roles are met. Justice Defenders (USA) is accountable to the Internal Revenue Service, the State of Delaware and to Justice Defenders.
