Shifting Power Through Legal Education
Justice Defenders was honoured to be hosted by We Are One Humanity for the webinar “Reshaping Justice: Shifting Power in Prisons Through Legal Education.”
The conversation examined how expanding access to legal education and justice tools within prison systems can uphold human dignity while contributing to safer, more stable communities.
Featuring Hamisi Mzari and Isaac Ndegwa, the session offered insight into Justice Defenders’ model of equipping incarcerated people and prison staff with legal training as paralegals and lawyers. Their reflections illustrated how studying and practicing the law together inside prisons can transform relationships, strengthen institutional culture, and support communities often facing marginalisation and injustice.
Participants were encouraged to consider what meaningful social reform looks like within their own contexts and how practical action can advance human rights.
We are grateful to We Are One Humanity for creating a platform that elevates voices with lived experience and fosters thoughtful dialogue on justice and systemic change.
